A new international hospitality school has opened in the heart of Portugal’s internationally known Douro Valley. The new hospitality school, known as the Porto School Hotel, is part of the Politécnico do Porto, a polytechnic university in Portugal that provides a more practical training or profession-oriented education of various diverse fields.
It is an expansion for the university which through its ESEIG (Superior School of Industrial Studies and Management) has already been training students in Hotel Management. The school is well positioned to train workers for the expanding field of tourism, which will see double digit growth in the coming decades. Students will learn all aspects of the hospitality industry in various courses taught in both English and Portuguese in several disciplines such as wine and beverage service management, culinary and innovation management, and hospitality management. As part of their studies, students will also have the unique setting of working at the Douro Royal Valley Hotel and Spa, a five star hotel located about an hour outside of Oporto along the Douro River. Known for its famous wine region, the Douro River Valley is one of the most visited tourist areas of Portugal.
