On Sunday, June 22, a Portugal Day Parade will take place in Cambridge and Somerville, MA, starting at 2:00 pm. The event is sponsored by the Boston Portuguese Festival.
This year’s parade highlights the 9th celebration of the Boston Portuguese Festival, and its organization is counting on the Portuguese community to participate in the event and to embrace its Portuguese-American heritage.
“This is a big event and it shows the most popular elements of one of the oldest countries in the world, the organization says.”
The parade will include floats, bands and folkloric groups representing several Portuguese communities spread out through the state of Massachusetts. There will also be sales of Portuguese arts and crafts, food, etc.
The parade will start at the Portuguese Square (Concord Avenue) in Somerville and it will proceed to Cambridge Street, through Inman Square, ending in front of St. Anthony’s Church at the corner of Cambridge Street and Cardinal Medeiros Avenue.
The parade will be followed by a concert by Faith Band.
