Fundraiser for fire victims in Portugal surpasses $100,000 in donations

There is a fundraising campaign going on titled “Todos Juntos por Portugal” (All Together for Portugal), which so far raised over $100,000. This campaign involves over 30 Portuguese organizations throughout New Jersey, and its purpose is raising funds to help the families in Portugal who lost lives and property in the recent fires in Pedrógão Grande and other areas in Portugal.

According to recent data, 64 people lost their lives, and over 200 were hurt. The fires consumed over 53,000 acres of forest, the equivalent of 75,000 football fields.

So far, the Portuguese clubs in Elizabeth and in Newark had their events, as well as a Telethon at SIC Portuguese TV, which combined raised over $100,000.

The next fundraisers will be held on:

July 2 – at the Portuguese Clube in Union.

July 8 – at the Sport Newark Benfica in Newark.

June 9 – at the Portuguese Club in South River.

The organization currently has individuals in loco gathering information in identifying families who need most help, and soon a group of people will travel to Portugal to deliver the funds to each of those families.
