ELIZABETH, NJ: Elizabeth High School Marching Band to perform at Super Bowl XLVIII

Elizabeth High School’s Marching Band, whose prestigious achievements include twenty-three championship titles over their thirty-seven years, were tapped to perform at the Super Bowl XLVIII pregame show, as well as at several NFL events in Newark, New Jersey leading up to the big game. The highly decorated marching band from Elizabeth, New Jersey includes in their most recent awards, an unprecedented three consecutive years of sweeping both state and national titles in their class. While the 147 member band has been invited to perform in many venues in New Jersey, Band Directors Wayne Dillon and Benjamin Schwartz never imagined their talented students would be performing at the world’s most prestigious sporting event. “We are thrilled that our marching band here at Elizabeth High School has the opportunity to participate in the Super Bowl Media Day and Game day,” said Band Director Dillon. “It’s truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for the members, parents and staff.” Superintendent of Schools Olga Hugelmeyer commented, “This is an impressive accomplishment by an extraordinarily talented group of students. We are honored to have these young men and women of the marching band represent Elizabeth Public Schools with great pride in themselves and in their talent.” Elizabeth Board of Education President Tony Monteiro said, “We are all extremely proud of our marching band’s tremendous achievements winning both state and national titles for three consecutive years. Being chosen to perform at the Super Bowl and represent the very best in New Jersey on the national stage is an extraordinary reward for our talented students.”
