Gateway Project expands on Newark as arts hub and opens its doors in April

Rebecca Jampol and Jasmine Wahi

To the untrained eye, Newark might not seem like a city with both a recognized and burgeoning arts community. The glorious murals and contemporary galleries that have emerged as of late are a small testament to Brick City being an epicenter of cultural fine arts since the 1930s.

Nevertheless, Rebecca Jampol of Solo(s) Project House (SPH) and Jasmine Wahi of Project For Empty Space (RES) have tapped into Newark’s creative energy and activated many local spaces with multimedia arts, one of the prime locations being the Gateway Center. This artistic endeavor, also known as Gateway Studios and Gallery, will re-open its doors in April of 2015 after a significant remodel and expansion.
